Play Pokemon Go With Your Children

How do you keep your kids safe while they're playing Pokemon Go? Here are our top tips for parents!
Pokémon Go is the augmented reality game everyone is talking about. To play, you go around searching in your neighborhood capturing and collecting pocket monsters. On the surface, it seems like the perfect game to get the kids out and exercising. But, as a parent, if your kids do go out to play Pokemon Go, there are some things you need to know!
As a parent, you need to set boundaries for your kids. That includes where they're allowed to play. Establish a safe area for your kids and make sure they stick to it. I typically choose parks or other areas away from busy roads.
It's easy for a child — even and adult! — to become distracted or figure they can dash across the street to get closer to a PokeStop. Keep them safe by keeping them away from potential danger.
Turning off sound helps a lot too. It means they have a better chance of hearing your instructions, and hearing cars, horns, and other warnings when out and about.
Likewise, set time limits. Let your kids know when they can start playing, and when they have to stop and go on to other activities, chores, and homework.
Stay lit
If your child is old enough to be out at night, or you're going out as a family, make sure everyone has clothing that includes a light. I use glow bands with my kids. That way I can always see where they are, and so can bicyclists, drivers, and other walkers.
Keep them dressed in light and bright colors as well. That way they'll reflect any light coming their way and have an even better chance of being seen.
Don't catch and bike
Bikes, scooters, and other modes of transportation — including cars! — require complete focus and attention to operate safely. Make sure your child knows that, if they're riding, their device is off and safely put away.
Once they get to their destination they can take it out and start playing again. Until then, eyes and attention on what they're doing.
Stranger danger
One of the best things about Pokemon Go is how it brings people together in united purpose — catching pocket monsters! But that sense of community and openness to meeting new people absolutely does not extend to children.
Make sure your children know that they're not to follow anyone without you, even if that person promises to show them a rare Pokemon, or asks their help to find a PokeStop.
Just like kids need to be taught not to follow strangers for candy or to help find pets, they need to be taught not to follow them for Pokemon.
Keep them secret, keep them safe
Information is incredibly valuble. Don't let your child give up their privacy or identity just to play a game.
  1. Create a secondary, dummy Google account for them to play with. Something that doesn't tie back to a school account or actual, personal account.
  2. Don't let them use their real names for their Pokemon account names. Encourage them to use their creativity to come up with code names or Pokemon Trainer-style names.
That way, their data is safe and their identity is safe.
Use the buddy system
Pokemon are best caught in pairs or groups. Not only is it more fun for everyone involved, it's safer too. Especially for kids. If they're going out, make sure you or someone you trust go with them.
If they have data on their device, you can also turn it off and then tether them to your iPhone. That way, if they stray to far, they fall off the net. That encourages them to stay close, and closer is safer.
Trust... but verify
My colleague, Russell Holly, has some great tips for parenting Pokemon players on Android. My favorite is keeping track of exactly what your child is doing. That way, you know if they were following the rules you set out for them.
It's not about whether you trust your kids or not, it's about knowing that they're kidsand they need supervision.
To find out how long your child is playing for:
  1. Launch Pokemon Go from your home screen.
  2. Tap the Player button at the bottom left of the screen.
  3. Tap the Journal button
Look at the times that your child was playing. If they match the limits you've set, great! If not, it's time for a talk.
Theoretically, you can also check location, though it doesn't seem to be working right now.
  1. Launch Pokemon Go from your home screen.
  2. Tap the Pokeball button at the bottom center of the screen
  3. Tap the Pokemon button at the bottom left.
  4. Tap on any Pokemon.
  5. Scroll down and look at the map to see where it was caught.

How To Boosters And Spending Your Coins

The great thing about subway surfers is you have access to all the boosters in the game without having to spend real money.

But be careful how you spend you hard earned coins. Here are our recommendations on how to distribute your coins over the available boosts in the game.

You get to the Boosts section by selecting Shop from the main page, then Boosts.

Here you can use your gameplay coins to purchase some single use items. Personally I wouldn't worry too much about these until you have your multiplier at x30. Once there stock up on the single use items such as hoverboards.

Lets go through each item in more detail...

Hoverboards
These are purchasable for 300 coins. These take a hit for you. If you have one of these utilised while playing the game and you crash, basically the board breaks and you can carry on with your run. They last for a set amount of time.

Different boards can be unlocked by going from the main menu > me > boards. You can use coins to purchase different types of boards.

Mystery Box
You pick these up in the shop for 500 coins each and they will furnish you with a prize of coins or items. Buy a couple a see what you get. You can also collect these in the game which you open once you finish.

Score Booster
These cost 3000 coins and will increase your multiplier by 5 for one complete run. Probably only worth purchasing once you have an x30 multiplier. Please see our hints and tips section or our How to get a great score section for our tips on increasing your multiplier.

Mega Headstart
You can buy these in the shop for 2000 coins, sometimes they can be found in the mystery box. Basically they are activated by selecting the Mega Headstart icon after you start your game. If you have any available to you to use and its the start of the game the icon will display. It gives you a nice boost to your score in the beginning of the game. Probably only worth buying once you have a maxed out multiplier.

Upgrades
The next section of the shop is titled Upgrades, these basically increase the time you get to use on the following items each time the are collected in-game; Jetpack, Super Sneakers, Coin Magnet, 2x Multiplier.

The sneakers are pretty handy to have to help you jump over trains, the jetpack is really useful as an easy way to collect lots of coins, so is the coin magnet, and the 2x multiplier is just useful for getting a huge score.

My recommendation is to take all of them to the 10,000 coins level then just max out your favorites as and when you get enough coins as the next level for each one will cost 30,000 coins each!

Power-ups SubWay Surfer
Power-ups that you can pick up while playing are:
  • Jetpack which allows you to fly over all of the trains and collect a trail of coins along the way.
  • Super Sneakers will make your character run faster than normal, and will pick up any coins under them.
  • Coin Magnet will collect all of the coins in the vicinity around you.
  • 2X Multiplier will double your score while it is active.
All of these power-ups only last a limited time, so make sure you take advantage of them while they’re active. For more information on Power-ups,
Bump Into Barriers
Jump early or jump late and you'll bump into the red and white barriers without being caught by the inspector and his dog.
Friend Runs
A cool way to make extra coins is by having your friends run so you can earn additional money. For each 50 friend runs, you will earn a coin bag with valuable coins inside.
Mega Headstart
If you trigger the Mega Headstart as soon as your mission starts you will immediately be launched into the sky and get an easy 10000+ points without having to jump or roll.
Bouncy shoes
When you have bouncy shoes and you're in the air you can wipe twice and when you come back down you will jump twice.
Collecting coins easily
You just need to go to the boosts and then click on the mystery box option and click. You will see coins like 5,000, 200, 500, etc, but if you're lucky you will get 100,000 coins.

Hunt Of Weekly

The Weekly Hunt is similar to the Daily Challenge, except, as the name suggests, it takes place over the course of a week. For every edition of subway surfers: World Tour, there are four Weekly Hunts. To complete the Hunt, you must find a certain number of Tokens to receive a reward.

The Tokens are specific to each edition, with new orleans featuring Pumpkin tokens, while Tokyo used Japanese keychains for the collecting purpose. They are usually harder to come across than the Daily Challenge tokens, largely because you have a week to get them rather than just one day.

The Weekly Hunts began following the Rome edition and its Egg Hunt

Mission Tips And Hints

Below you will find tips for some of the generic mission types which the game will throw at you:

Avoid Jumping: To avoid jumping, using a Mega Headstart, then a Hoverboard straight after it. You can then safely ignore any obstacles

Jump 'x' Number of Times: To complete these missions, swipe up and then down immediately to do a quick jump - then repeat as required.

Still Stuck? Don't forget you can skip missions by spending coins in the Shop.

Avoid coins: Use a Headstart to help you avoid Coins. You should use a Headstart to avoid any Coins at the start of the level.

Bumping: To 'bump', swipe into the side of an object.

Stay In The Same Lane: To do this, use a Mega Headstart, then a Hoverboard.

Dodging: Dodging a barrier means to jump over it or roll underneath it.

Stumbling: Stumbling is quite difficult, but is achieved when you have jumped to clear an obstacle, but your timing is wrong. So jump too late, or too early so that you fall back onto the barrier. You know if you've successfully stumbled because you will hit the obstacle but won't fail the run - although the Inspector will catch up.
Use Hoverboards Without Crashing: To do this, activate the Hoverboard at the start of your run, where there arent many obstacles and it's easiest.

Jump Over Trains: You need to use Super Sneakers to be able to completely jump over a train.

Subway Surf Mission List All You Can get

You can see a complete list of all the uniquemissions in subway surfers by looking below. There are 49 of these, after which time they start to repeat themselves.

Set 1

- Collect 500 Coins

- Score 1,000 Points in one run

Set 2

- Collect 200 Coins in one run.

- Jump 20 times

- Pick up 2 Super Sneakers

TIP: To jump up and down as quickly as possible, swipe up and then down, as this brings your character down quickly rather than partaking in the usual floaty jump.

Set 3

- Get 2 character tokens from Mystery Boxes

- Roll 30 times in total

- Spend 2,000 coins

TIP: Spend your 2,000 coins purchasing Mystery Boxes and you will move through two of these objectives at once.

Set 4

- Complete 1 Daily Challenge

- Dodge 20 barriers

- Score 6,000 points in one run

- Jump 30 times in one run

- Buy 1 Mystery Box.

Set 6

- Use 1 Hoverboard

- Pick up 5 Coin Magnets

- Stumble into 2 barriers

TIP: To use a Hoverboard, which you should have collected a fair few of by now, simply double tap the screen.

TIP: Stumbling is quite difficult, but is achieved when you have jumped to clear an obstacle, but your timing is wrong. So jump too late, or too early so that you fall back onto the barrier. You know if you've successfully stumbled because you will hit the obstacle but won't fail the run - although the Inspector will catch up.

Set 7

- Pick up 2 Jetpacks

- Beat 1 Friend

- Use 1 Headstart

Set 8

- Bump into 3 trains in one run

- Pickup 40 coins with a Magnet

- Get caught in first 10 seconds of run

TIP: Bumping into trains is done by running next to them and swiping into it. You lose time by doing this but don't fail the run. Just make sure the Inspector is a fair distance away before you attempt it. This is also how you fail in the first 10 seconds of a run - swipe to bump into a train so that the Inspector catches you.

Set 9

- Use 1 Hoverboard without crashing

- Pick up 2 Mystery Boxes

- Roll 30 times in a single run

TIP: The Hoverboard normally prevents you from crashing - i.e. it will disappear if you hit an obstacle. To achieve this mission, you have to remain on the Hoverboard until it disappears naturally. So in this case, it's a good idea to activate it right at the start of your run.

TIP: It will be hard to achieve this unless you are specifically trying to do so - you should swipe down over and over again (when safe to do so) to tick off this mission.

Set 10
